There are more than 500 criminals among the migrants trying to get into the U.S, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
DHS officials said Monday that the criminals are part of the caravan that is currently sitting in Tijuana and expected to enter the U.S. at San Diego.
As Fox News reports, the comments were made during a Monday conference call to reporters. DHS officials maintain that “most of the caravan members are not women and children,” but they are leading the migrant caravan in an effort to depict the caravan members as vulnerable refugees.
“All legal options are on the table and we have been negotiating with all our partners in central America with ways to deal with the caravan,” one official reportedly said in response to questions about whether the illegal immigrants can be forced to stay on the Mexican side of the border while their refugee claims are assessed.
