A Colorado sheriff is standing up for our 2nd Amendment rights and says that he’s not going to enforce the outrageous gun-control measure state lawmakers passed Monday.
In fact, he said he’s willing to go to jail rather than enforce these new ‘red flag’ laws.
“It’s a matter of doing what’s right,” Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams told CNN.
“It violates the fourth, the fifth, the sixth, the eighth, and the fourteenth amendment. It’s just a very poorly written bill,” Reams said.
Failure to enforce a court order to seize a person’s guns could mean sheriffs being found in contempt. A judge could fine them indefinitely, or even send them to jail to force them to comply. Reams says it’s a sacrifice he’d be forced to make.
The controversial “red flag” bill aims to seize guns temporarily from people who are deemed to be a threat to themselves or others.
Question- who determines if a person is a threat?
I mean, you could piss off your girlfriend or whatever and she could call the cops and they could come and confiscate your firearms and ammo.
Or you could piss off your neighbor and all they have to do is make the call and BOOM-YOU ARE SCREWED!
After receiving the petition, the court is required to hold a hearing without the gun owner present. If the order is granted, the guns are seized and another hearing is held within two weeks with the gun owner present to determine whether to return the guns or extend the seizure for up to 364 days, according to CNN.
