Karmelo Anthony’s Rep Indicates Head-Turning Reason He Booted Austin Metcalf’s Dad From Presser
In a tense development following the tragic death of Austin Metcalf, a controversy has erupted over the removal of the victim’s father from a press conference.
Dominique Alexander, president and founder of the Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), defended the decision to have Jeff Metcalf escorted from the event, suggesting there were safety concerns that potentially included the fear he might be armed.
Alexander, who represents the family of Karmelo Anthony, the teenager charged with Metcalf’s murder, made startling comments about the incident during a public statement that has since drawn significant attention from the community and media outlets.
“The Anthony family didn’t even know that Austin’s dad was even in the facility. They didn’t know that Austin’s dad was here until he was actually removed by DPD,” Alexander explained to those in attendance at the mid-April gathering, referring to the Dallas Police Department’s involvement in the situation.
The activist described in detail how security personnel had initially approached Metcalf’s father, asking him to move back from the area where the press conference was set to take place.
The man responded in a manner that security found concerning, according to Alexander’s account.
“One of our security people asked him to move back — he looked back at him like he was entitled or like he didn’t have to move,” Alexander stated, suggesting that this initial interaction raised red flags among those organizing the event.
Alexander claimed that initially, they were completely unaware of the man’s identity until a member of the press identified him as Austin Metcalf’s father.
This revelation apparently prompted immediate action from the NGAN president and his team.
“I said, I know you’re lying. Like, what? He can’t be here. And so what we initiated is making sure that we secured the facility,” Alexander stated, describing his reaction upon learning who the man was and the subsequent security measures they decided to implement.
In a particularly controversial statement that has since become the focal point of reporting on the incident, Alexander appeared to suggest that Jeff Metcalf’s presence created a potential security threat that could have escalated into a dangerous situation for those present.
“How do we know what he came here for? He didn’t come and ask or come to us and say — he just stood there,” Alexander said, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding Metcalf’s intentions for attending the press conference supporting his son’s alleged killer.
The NGAN president then made a statement that has drawn significant scrutiny: “We didn’t know if we started the press conference — and I’m not accusing anyone of anything — We didn’t know if he was gonna pull out a — we didn’t know what we didn’t know.”
Alexander’s comments seemed to imply he feared Jeff Metcalf might have been armed, though he stopped short of explicitly completing the accusation.
The Dallas-based activist group ultimately made the decision to call police to have Metcalf’s father removed from the press conference.
Reports from those present indicate that Jeff Metcalf complied with the officer’s request without resistance, shaking hands with law enforcement before departing the scene without any further incident or confrontation.
During the press conference that followed, the Post Millennial reported that Alexander characterized the father’s attendance as not just inappropriate but disrespectful to his own son’s memory.
“The father being at this press conference, these are my words, don’t quote anybody, is a disrespect to the dignity of his son,” he declared to those gathered.
Alexander further emphasized his position regarding Jeff Metcalf’s presence, stating, “He knows that it is inappropriate to be near this family. But he did it. Actions speak louder than words.”
The backdrop to this confrontation is the tragic stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf earlier in April at a Texas track meet.
The incident reportedly began as a seemingly minor dispute over seating arrangements, with Anthony allegedly sitting under the wrong team’s tent before the situation escalated dramatically.
Karmelo Anthony, who has been arrested and charged with Metcalf’s death, has claimed through his legal representation that the stabbing was an act of self-defense.
When arrested by authorities, Anthony reportedly admitted to the act but maintained it was necessary to protect himself.
