Charlie Kirk Torches ABC News After Network’s Coverage of MS-13 Suspect Changes From ‘Maryland Man’ to ‘Salvadoran Man’ as Deportation Battle Rages on: ‘Hoax is Dead’
ABC News has quietly altered its description of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant facing deportation and alleged gang ties.
Initial reporting in April 2025 referred to him as a “Maryland man,” but by May 6, the outlet had shifted to calling him a “Salvadoran man” instead.
The change in terminology comes amid increasing scrutiny of Abrego Garcia’s case, which has become a flashpoint in immigration debates under the reinstated Trump administration.
Conservative commentators quickly highlighted the shift in language.
Charlie Kirk offered a pointed critique, stating, “With zero acknowledgment of their own propaganda, ABC News quietly shifted its reporting on gangbanger and wife-beating illegal Kilmar Abrego Garcia.”
He continued, “And just like that, the Maryland Man Hoax is dead.”
Abrego Garcia initially entered the United States from El Salvador as a teenager, claiming he was fleeing violence in his home country.
He subsequently settled in Maryland, married a U.S. citizen and started a family.
Abrego Garcia received protection from deportation under the United Nations Convention Against Torture in 2019, per reports.
Despite this legal shield, authorities deported him to El Salvador in March 2025 as part of the Trump administration’s strengthened immigration enforcement efforts.
The administration has cited evidence allegedly connecting Abrego Garcia to MS-13, widely considered one of the world’s most violent street gangs.
Officials point to specific gang-affiliated tattoos and a 2022 traffic stop as indicators of his potential criminal connections.
While Abrego Garcia’s supporters note he has no formal convictions linking him to MS-13, critics argue that technical legal protections should not prevent the removal of individuals deemed security threats.
The deportation triggered legal challenges that reached the Supreme Court, which ruled that Abrego Garcia should be returned to the United States.
The Justice Department, however, has claimed it lacks the necessary legal mechanisms to enforce his return now that the deportation has been executed.
ABC News has not publicly addressed or explained its editorial decision to change the terminology used to describe Abrego Garcia in its coverage.
Federal authorities have reportedly been investigating a 2022 traffic incident in Tennessee involving Abrego Garcia.
This stop may contain significant information about his alleged criminal connections, according to sources familiar with the ongoing probe speaking to ABC News.
As part of this investigation, federal agents have interviewed Jose Ramon Hernandez-Reyes, a 38-year-old convicted felon currently incarcerated in Alabama.
Hernandez-Reyes was reportedly the registered owner of the vehicle Abrego Garcia was operating during the 2022 traffic stop.
When Tennessee Highway Patrol officers pulled over the vehicle, they discovered eight passengers inside.
Abrego Garcia reportedly informed officers that the group had been performing construction work in Missouri, Trending Politics highlighted.
Beyond the gang allegations, Abrego Garcia also faces accusations of domestic abuse, further complicating his case and public perception.
ABC News, with zero acknowledgement of their own propaganda, has quietly shifted its reporting on gangbanger and wife-beating illegal Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) made headlines late last month after confirming his controversial trip to El Salvador to advocate for the return of Abrego Garcia was funded by U.S. taxpayer dollars, TTOA reported.
When directly questioned about who paid for the trip, Van Hollen acknowledged it was an “officially cleared congressional trip.”
Fox News’ Shannon Bream then asked, “So taxpayer dollars?”
Van Hollen replied, “Yes, like every other trip.”
Kilmar Abrego Garcia is not a “Maryland Man”—he is an MS-13 gang member involved in human trafficking who entered the United States illegally. His deportation to El Salvador was always going to be the end result.@TriciaOhio pic.twitter.com/bd3s8wHM2T
