Michael Jordan Reveals Major Career Stunner

Michael Jordan to Join NBC’s NBA Coverage in Major Media Shift

Basketball fans will be seeing a familiar face in a new role this fall.

NBA legend Michael Jordan is returning to the spotlight — not as a player or owner, but as a special contributor to NBC’s upcoming NBA coverage, the network revealed Monday at its upfront presentation in New York.

Jordan, 62, has largely stayed out of the media since retiring from the NBA and selling his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets in 2023.

Starting this fall, the six-time NBA champion will return to a network that was once home to some of the most iconic moments of his career.

“The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project,” Jordan said in a statement, according to the New York Post. “I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October.”

Though Jordan played 15 seasons in the league, was a 14-time All-Star and earned five MVP awards, he has never expressed interest in traditional media roles.

His decision to partner with NBC marks a rare shift, as the basketball icon typically keeps a low profile and avoids high-visibility gigs.

Since stepping back from team ownership, Jordan has been mostly focused on his private life with wife Yvette Prieto and his various business endeavors.

The announcement comes as NBC makes its long-awaited return to NBA broadcasting. The network secured an 11-year media rights deal with the NBA last summer, which officially begins with the 2025–26 season.

However, NBC is launching its NBA content early this fall to begin reestablishing its brand in basketball coverage.

“A legendary addition to our team!” read a post Monday from the NBA on NBC’s official X account, which shared a highlight reel of Jordan’s illustrious playing career. “We’re thrilled to welcome Michael Jordan as a special contributor to the NBA on NBC and Peacock.”

According to The Post, play-by-play duties will be handled by veteran broadcaster Mike Tirico and rising star Noah Eagle.

Former NBA players Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller have signed on as analysts, promising an experienced and entertaining lineup.

Earlier this month, the network also revealed that Carmelo Anthony will serve as an in-studio analyst, rounding out its talent roster with a blend of current and former stars.

NBC and its streaming platform, Peacock, plan to offer extensive coverage throughout the week.

“Peacock will livestream exclusive national Monday night games while NBC/Peacock will present national coverage of regional doubleheaders on Tuesday nights,” the network announced in a press release.

In addition, “Sunday Night Basketball” is slated to debut in 2026 on both NBC and Peacock.

Jordan’s presence could potentially attract additional viewers to NBC, as fans who recall his iconic NBA on NBC moments may be inclined to watch.

Although his role is expected to focus on special segments, this decision highlights NBC’s approach of incorporating both nostalgic elements and new content into their coverage.

For viewers and longtime fans, Jordan’s return to NBC marks a significant moment, reconnecting him with a familiar platform.
