Mexican Illegal Immigrant Arrested for Allegedly Threatening to Assassinate Trump
A Mexican national illegally in the U.S. has been arrested after allegedly threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced Wednesday that Ramon Morales-Reyes, 54, was taken into federal custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on May 22.
Morales-Reyes reportedly sent a letter to an ICE field intelligence officer outlining a plan to kill Trump.
The letter was the basis for his arrest.
In the letter, Morales-Reyes wrote, “We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans — we have done more for this country than you white people.”
He also wrote, “You have been deporting my family and I think it is time Donald J. Trump get what he has coming to him.”
Morales-Reyes threatened, “I will self deport myself back to Mexico, but not before I use my 30 yard 6 to shoot your precious president in his head — I will see him at one of his big rallies.”
The arrest took place in Wisconsin. Morales-Reyes is currently held at the Dodge County Jail in Juneau, Wisconsin, awaiting deportation proceedings, per the Conservative Brief.
DHS reports that Morales-Reyes illegally crossed the U.S. border at least nine times between 1998 and 2005.
His criminal record includes felony hit-and-run, criminal property damage, and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier.
Noem emphasized the seriousness of the threat and called for more responsible political discourse.
“All politicians and members of the media should take notice of these repeated attempts on President Trump’s life and tone down their rhetoric,” Noem stated.
She referenced a controversial Instagram post by former FBI Director James Comey. The photo contained seashells spelling “86 47,” which some interpreted as a coded reference to an assassination threat against the 47th president.
Comey was questioned by the Secret Service on May 16 about the post. He denied any hostile intent and deleted the photograph.
Noem also cited an attempted assassination during Trump’s 2024 campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a bullet narrowly missed the candidate’s head.
Threatening rhetoric from Democrats and left-leaning media has led to increased security measures for Trump officials.
Notably, FBI Assistant Director Dan Bongino and border czar Tom Homan receive extensive security protection.
Security costs for Homan alone have drawn media attention. CBS News reported that his security detail costs roughly $500,000 per month.
An unnamed source estimated total monthly expenses for protecting Homan, including agents’ salaries, travel, and lodging, approach $1 million.
Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin defended the security expenses, citing rising threats amid heated political rhetoric.
McLaughlin pointed to increased assaults and doxxing incidents targeting officials involved in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.
She assured that DHS will maintain protective measures for Homan and his family.
Homan’s security detail includes a rotating team of approximately 30 Homeland Security Investigations agents providing round-the-clock coverage.
Their protection extends to Homan’s home, travel routes, offices in the White House West Wing and ICE headquarters, and public appearances.
