Musk Offers Trump Olive Branch as Ruined Relationship Rips MAGA Apart: Report
Elon Musk moved to calm tensions with Donald Trump Thursday evening as White House officials arranged emergency discussions between the feuding powerhouses.
The dramatic rift between America’s wealthiest individual and the nation’s leader reached a breaking point after days of escalating conflict.
The partnership that defined much of Trump’s campaign and early presidency crumbled publicly Thursday when Musk demanded Trump’s impeachment while connecting the president to Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump responded by suggesting Musk face deportation from the United States.
The confrontation originated from Musk’s fierce resistance to Trump’s legislative agenda, specifically what the president calls his “big, beautiful bill.”
The disagreement rapidly descended into personal attacks and threats to terminate Musk’s extensive government contracts.
Wall Street delivered a crushing blow to Musk during the chaos, with Tesla stock plummeting and erasing approximately $27 billion from his personal wealth in a single trading session.
Hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman intervened in the dispute, publishing an appeal on X urging both men to reconcile “for the benefit of our great country.”
Ackman warned that “we are much stronger together than apart” in his message to the warring factions.
Musk’s response to Ackman proved significant, offering a concise but meaningful reply: “You’re not wrong.”
Trump administration officials reportedly scheduled a telephone conversation between the president and his former ally for Friday, aiming to resolve the conflict that threatens to fracture the MAGA movement and destabilize Washington.
The president appeared unfazed by the public confrontation during a Thursday evening interview with Politico.
“Oh it’s okay,” Trump stated during the phone call, before highlighting his approval ratings: “It’s going very well, never done better.”
Trump emphasized his polling numbers, declaring: “The numbers are through the roof, the highest polls I’ve ever had and I have to go.”
Earlier Thursday, Trump had threatened to cancel Musk’s lucrative federal contracts, with advisors suggesting the removal of security clearances for Musk and his companies.
The president’s inner circle discussed various retaliatory measures against the SpaceX founder, the Daily Mail reported.
Resist the Mainstream noted that Steve Bannon, one of Trump’s longest-serving advisors, escalated the conflict by proposing government seizure of SpaceX under the Defense Production Act.
Such action would likely trigger extensive legal challenges and mark an unprecedented move against a private aerospace company.
Musk initially threatened to decommission the SpaceX Dragon capsule, which serves as a critical transportation system for American astronauts and supplies to the International Space Station.
The threat raised immediate national security concerns among government officials.
Musk, however, retreated from his Dragon threat after receiving advice from social media users.
The Daily Mail highlighted that following a suggestion to “cool off and take a step back for a couple of days,” Musk posted: “Good advice. Ok, we won’t decommission Dragon.”
SpaceX has secured over $17 billion in government contracts since 2015, according to ABC News reporting.
The majority of these funds originate from NASA and the Department of Defense, making government relationships crucial to the company’s operations.
Tesla has received approximately $1 billion in government support through various programs, based on February data.
The electric vehicle manufacturer’s federal ties add another dimension to the potential consequences of the Trump-Musk conflict.
Bannon advocated for using the Defense Production Act against Musk during his “War Room Live” broadcast.
“The United States government should take possession of it (SpaceX),” Bannon declared to his audience.
The former White House strategist made inflammatory claims about Musk’s citizenship status, stating: “Elon Musk is here illegally. He’s got to go.”
Bannon labeled Musk an “unstable individual” and a “national security issue,” referencing New York Times reporting about the DOGE leader’s drug use.
“President Trump is a bull and Elon is a baby calf,” Bannon added during his broadcast.
In a Thursday phone interview with the New York Times, Bannon demanded: “They should initiate a formal investigation of his immigration status because I am of the strong belief that he is an illegal alien, and he should be deported from the country immediately.”
The public feud erupted Thursday morning when Musk intensified his opposition to the Republican-led budget reconciliation bill.
The legislation reportedly adds trillions to the national deficit, a prospect that infuriated Musk and contributed to his departure from the Trump administration.
