Kash Patel Could Soon be Fired Amid Heavy Criticism: Report
A new report claims FBI Director Kash Patel could be on borrowed time as President Donald Trump reportedly grows frustrated with a series of damaging headlines surrounding the bureau chief.
According to The Times, citing Politico and a senior White House official, Patel’s future in the administration is increasingly uncertain.
“One of the key reasons” for a possible dismissal is the amount of negative press, which the source reportedly said was “not a good look” and had irritated Trump.
“It’s only a matter of time,” the official said.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt publicly pushed back on the speculation, telling Politico that Patel remains “a critical player on the administration’s law and order team.”
The report comes amid broader turnover inside Trump’s administration.
It notes that former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and former Attorney General Pam Bondi were previously removed, while ICE acting head Todd Lyons is expected to leave next month.
Patel has also recently gone on offense legally.
He filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic over a report alleging heavy drinking, unexplained absences, and concerns from colleagues about his conduct.
Patel said the article was filled with fabricated claims designed to destroy his reputation and force him from office.
The Atlantic report allegedly cited two dozen current and former officials who said security staff struggled to wake Patel due to intoxication on several occasions and that he was sometimes unreachable, delaying investigations.
Patel’s filing denies those allegations entirely.
“None of these events occurred,” according to the lawsuit.
The Times report also revisited several controversies tied to Patel’s tenure.
It said he publicly shared inaccurate information during active investigations, including prematurely claiming suspects were in custody in separate murder and shooting cases before those facts were confirmed.
Another report alleged Patel used a SWAT team to protect his girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins, at an NRA event before the security team was later withdrawn.
The article further claimed Patel panicked on April 10 after being unable to access an internal computer system and mistakenly believed he had been fired.
Sources told The Atlantic he contacted aides about being removed before learning it was a technical issue.
Patel’s legal team called that story fabricated.
The report also noted major structural changes inside the FBI since Patel took over, including firings of agents tied to earlier Trump investigations and dismantling units focused on Iranian threats before the war began.
