Several People Shot Near a Popular Festival in Ohio
Multiple people were shot Saturday evening near a popular annual festival in Ohio, sending attendees scrambling for safety as police launched a search for the suspect or suspects responsible.
The shooting occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. near the Old West End Festival in Toledo, according to local authorities.
Police officers from the Toledo Police Department, along with deputies from the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical personnel, responded after reports of gunfire near Delaware Avenue and Glenwood Avenue.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Several victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities did not immediately release the exact number of victims or provide information on their conditions.
Investigators also had not publicly identified any suspects as of Saturday evening.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted during one of the city’s largest annual community events.
Kevin Berry, who attended the festival, said he heard multiple shots ring out while a band was performing nearby.
Berry told reporters he observed several individuals who appeared to have been struck by gunfire and estimated that five or six people may have been injured.
He said one victim appeared to have suffered a graze wound while another appeared to have sustained a more serious injury.
Berry also reported seeing an elderly woman collapse during the commotion.
According to Berry, the shooting appeared to occur without warning and prompted immediate panic among festivalgoers.
He said he heard as many as eight shots and later noticed a firearm on the ground, though he did not see the shooter.
The witness said he believed the suspect fled the area on foot before law enforcement arrived.
Another attendee, Tony Toledo of Defiance, Ohio, described the moments after the shooting in a social media post.
He said he had been eating near the festival grounds when gunfire erupted nearby.
According to Toledo, people immediately dropped to the ground and sought cover as confusion spread throughout the area.
He stated that a firearm was left behind near where he was standing and that another attendee alerted officers to its location.
Law enforcement officers quickly secured the weapon, according to his account.
Authorities have not confirmed details regarding the firearm or whether it is connected to the shooting.
The Toledo Police Department said investigators are working multiple scenes associated with the incident, including areas near Delaware Avenue and Robinwood Avenue, per the Daily Mail.
Police urged residents and visitors to avoid the area while investigators gather evidence and search for those responsible.
Detroit Avenue near West Delaware Avenue was closed following the shooting as officers secured the scene.
The response involved multiple agencies, including Toledo police, the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Toledo Fire and Rescue.
The Old West End Festival is one of Toledo’s largest annual events and celebrates the city’s historic Old West End neighborhood, one of the nation’s largest collections of historic homes.
The two-day festival features live music, food vendors, shopping, house tours, and community activities.
Saturday’s events began earlier in the day with the traditional King Wamba Carnival Parade.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
