Multiple Killed in Shooting at Idaho In-N-Out Restaurant; Suspect Dead
Multiple people were killed Saturday after a shooting erupted at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, prompting a large law enforcement response and leaving the suspected gunman dead, authorities said.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks confirmed during an evening news conference that the shooting resulted in multiple fatalities, though officials have not yet released the exact number of victims as authorities continue notifying family members.
“What I can tell you at this time is that we’ve had a shooting at the In-N-Out location that has resulted in fatalities,” Hicks said. “I don’t have the exact number confirmed. We’re still trying to make notification of their next of kin.”
Several other people were also injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment, though officials have not disclosed the severity of their injuries.
Police responded to reports of an active shooter at approximately 2:30 p.m., with officers from multiple local, state and federal agencies converging on the scene.
In an initial public alert, the Twin Falls Police Department urged residents and visitors to avoid the area while officers worked to secure the scene.
“Our department is responding to an active shooter incident in the area of In-N-Out,” the department said in a statement. “We are asking all residents and visitors to avoid the area so officers and first responders can work safely.”
Authorities later confirmed that the suspected gunman was found dead near the scene.
“We believe that the threat to the community is over,” Hicks said. “The suspected shooter in this incident is deceased. He was nearby on the scene, and we are working to ascertain his identity and the motivations behind that.”
Investigators have not publicly identified the suspect or released any information regarding a possible motive.
Police said detectives are continuing to process the crime scene while investigators work to determine exactly what occurred before and during the shooting.
Officials have not indicated whether the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or was killed by responding law enforcement officers.
The investigation remains active.
Idaho Gov. Brad Little urged residents to keep those affected in their thoughts as emergency crews responded.
“Idahoans, join me in keeping the Twin Falls community in your prayers as law enforcement and first responders respond to an active shooter situation near In-N-Out,” Little wrote on X. “Please avoid the area and follow directions from law enforcement as they work to keep everyone safe.”
Before police confirmed the suspect’s death, Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador also issued a statement saying he was monitoring developments, per Fox News.
“Praying for everyone in Twin Falls as first responders continue searching for the suspect near In-N-Out,” Labrador wrote.
“Twin Falls Police, Idaho State Police, and fire and paramedic crews remain on scene working to secure the area,” he added. “If you’re in the area, please listen to local authorities and stay away from In-N-Out and the surrounding streets so first responders can do their jobs.”
Authorities said additional information, including the identities of the victims, the suspected shooter and the possible motive, will be released as the investigation progresses and after next of kin have been notified.
