AOC Secretly Split From Her Longtime Fiancé Before Egg Freezing Plan: Report
A breakup report involving Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has surfaced just days after she went public with a deeply personal health decision.
According to a report from TMZ published on August 11, stating that the New York congresswoman and her longtime fiancé, Riley Roberts, are no longer together.
Sources cited by the outlet pointed to a simple but telling detail: the two have not been spotted together on Capitol Hill in quite some time.
That extended absence reportedly factored into TMZ’s confirmation that the relationship had ended.
What makes the timing notable is what immediately preceded it.
Days earlier, Ocasio-Cortez had shared with the public that she was undergoing the process of freezing her eggs, a move she tied explicitly to the current political environment under President Trump.
She laid out her reasoning in a video posted to Instagram, describing a decision that had weighed on her for a long time before she acted on it.
“Usually, I keep my private life quite private, but I have made the decision to start freezing my eggs, and I want to share that with anyone who is — and I want to share this because I was weighing it for a very long time, and I think that, you know, I was saving for it for a very long time, and there just isn’t a ton out there, I feel, and sometimes it can feel very daunting,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
From there, she pivoted to a broader point about women’s health education, arguing that many critical life stages go unaddressed in how women are prepared for their own bodies.
“And as women in general, we are not taught about our bodies, we are not prepared for our own lives, whether that is in puberty, whether that is in pregnancy, whether that is in perimenopause, menopause, whether that is in so many different aspects of our lives,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez then turned to the double standard she believes exists in politics, contrasting how she is scrutinized with how male colleagues avoid similar questions about age and family.
“This is just not something that men deal with. Men run for office, or frankly, they interview for jobs and people don’t think in the back of their mind, ‘OK this guy’s running for office, how old is he? Oh, well is he gonna wanna start a family?’” she said.
She summed up her decision in personal, rather than political, terms.
“This is a choice I am making to feel more in control of my life,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez followed the video with additional footage, this time showing herself administering an injection as part of the egg-freezing procedure itself.
The disclosure quickly became fuel for a separate conversation entirely: whether Ocasio-Cortez is positioning herself for a run at the presidency in 2028. Political bettors have taken notice.
Data from the Kalshi betting markets currently shows Ocasio-Cortez ranked second among likely Democratic presidential nominees. California Governor Gavin Newsom holds the number one position ahead of her.
As for the breakup itself, TMZ acknowledged a key gap in its reporting: the outlet could not pin down exactly when Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts actually split.
Puck reporter Leigh Ann Caldwell added a separate layer to the timeline, reporting that the couple’s engagement had actually been called off approximately a year and a half ago.
That claim, however, sits awkwardly next to other public evidence. A Manhattan restaurant, Black Iron Burger, posted content on May 4 of this year showing Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts together.
The restaurant appearance does not resolve the question of whether the two were still engaged at that point, but it does place them together publicly well after Caldwell’s reported breakup timeline.
Neither Ocasio-Cortez nor Roberts had commented publicly on the reported split at the time of this report. No statement has been issued from the congresswoman’s office either confirming or denying the TMZ story.
