Heartbreaking Musk Confession — It’s Over

Elon Musk’s Partner Shivon Zilis Says Billionaire Abruptly Ended Their Relationship

Shivon Zilis, the mother of four of Elon Musk’s children, says the billionaire abruptly ended their relationship without warning, bringing an end to a romance that had remained largely private for years.

Zilis, 40, revealed the breakup Friday in an emotional post on X after social media users noticed Musk had stopped following her on the platform.

She described herself as heartbroken and said the sudden split left her struggling to process the change.

“I’ve loved him more than life itself,” Zilis wrote.

She added that Musk had taught her “100 lifetimes of knowledge” and said their relationship had given her life tremendous meaning.

Zilis said the greatest thing to come from their relationship was their four children.

“I am so beyond grateful for our children and they make every single day the best day of my life!” she wrote.

She also expressed hope that she and Musk would be able to remain close as co-parents.

“I do hope and pray he and I can be great friends and coparents,” Zilis said.

The Neuralink executive suggested the breakup happened extremely quickly.

“It’s hard to go from in love to let go in a week,” she wrote.

Zilis also described Musk as a “tortured soul” and reflected on the role she believed she played in his life.

“I feel happy that I got to show Elon how it feels to be deeply understood, nurtured, and peacefully loved with stability and gentleness,” she wrote.

She said she enjoyed being a source of calm for Musk during difficult moments.

“I loved being that counterbalancing place of safety, sense of calm, and love,” Zilis said.

She added that she would “miss him dearly.”

Zilis appeared to underscore how unexpected the breakup was by sharing a screenshot of affectionate text messages the pair had exchanged just days earlier.

In a Sept. 24 message, Zilis told Musk it had been “really wonderful” to see him for breakfast and told him she loved him.

Musk responded, “Love you too.”

He also told Zilis that he had not realized a dinner involving Chinese President Xi Jinping included significant others and said he otherwise would have invited her.

“Aw, that means so much to me. Thank you,” Zilis replied.

Musk, 55, had not publicly commented on the breakup as of the source’s publication.

Zilis concluded her post by saying she remained supportive of him despite the pain of the split.

“I’m hurting, but care deeply about E and will always be cheering for his happiness,” she wrote.

“God speed, Elon, the world is lucky to have you.”

Signs that something may have changed between the pair first emerged several days earlier.

On Sept. 28, Zilis posted a cryptic message reading, “New day, new life.”

Then on Friday, an account that tracks activity by prominent technology figures reported that Musk had unfollowed Zilis.

Musk follows roughly 1,400 accounts on X.

Zilis and Musk’s relationship had previously received renewed attention during legal proceedings involving Musk and OpenAI, per the Daily Mail.

During testimony earlier this year, Zilis discussed how the two first met through OpenAI, which Musk co-founded in 2015.

She testified that their relationship initially began as “a one-off” encounter at a corporate event before later becoming romantic around 2016.

Zilis also testified that when she decided she wanted to become a mother, Musk offered to be a sperm donor.

Their twins, Strider and Azure, were born through IVF in November 2021.

Their third child, Arcadia, became publicly known in June 2024.

Their son, Seldon Lycurgus, followed in February 2025.

Zilis has said she lives in Austin, Texas, in a home where Musk frequently stays while visiting their children.

Musk, during his own testimony, referred to Zilis as his “partner.”

The pair were also seen holding hands earlier this year while attending the wedding of White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

Zilis works as an executive at Neuralink and previously worked on Tesla’s Autopilot team.

It remains unclear whether the breakup will have any effect on her professional roles within Musk-linked companies.

For now, Zilis’ own account portrays the split as sudden and deeply painful.

Despite that, she made clear that her focus remains on their children and on maintaining a positive relationship with Musk as they move forward separately.
