Iconic ‘General Hospital’ Actor Dies At 93

Actor Jack Axelrod Dies at 93

Jack Axelrod, a renowned actor, passed away on November 28 in Los Angeles at the age of 93, as reported by Entertainment Weekly (EW) on Saturday.

Axelrod’s representative Jennifer Garland confirmed his death due to natural causes to EW.

“I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with him in his last years, as he had no immediate family. We spent much time outdoors, where Jack loved to sketch, read news articles, and recite Shakespearean sonnets,” Garland said.

Axelrod’s career spanned several decades, marked by his dynamic presence on both stage and screen. His journey in the entertainment industry began at the University of California, Berkeley, where he initially pursued architecture. However, his passion for acting led him to a career change. Axelrod served in the Korean War before embarking on his acting career. He also worked as a licensed architect in Washington. His dedication to acting led him to study under actress Uta Hagen at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York City for six years.

One of Axelrod’s most memorable roles was in General Hospital, where he portrayed Victor Jerome, a character known for his rivalry with Angus McKay played by Guy Doleman. Axelrod’s versatility as an actor was evident in a variety of guest roles in shows such as “My Name Is Earl,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Star Trek: Voyager.” His film appearances included roles in “Hancock,” “Little Fockers” and “Super 8.”

Beyond his performances, Axelrod contributed to the acting field through teaching. He taught at several universities, including Pennsylvania State University, Temple University and CalArts. He also served as a guest teacher at the Speiser/Sturges Acting Studio in Los Angeles.
