Hunter Biden Complains of His Family’s Financial Collapse: ‘I Don’t Have any Assets’
Hunter Biden testified in a recent deposition that he no longer owns significant assets and lacks the financial resources to pay millions of dollars in legal fees sought by his former law firm.
The deposition was taken as part of a lawsuit filed by Winston Taylor, which alleges Biden owes approximately $17 million for legal representation related to federal criminal proceedings, congressional investigations and multiple civil lawsuits.
According to a transcript released this week, Biden described his financial situation in stark terms.
“I don’t have any assets. I don’t own a car. I don’t own a phone,” Biden testified.
“I don’t own anything of any value other than—and I don’t know the value of it—my paintings which I painted myself,” he added. “So that’s it. And I don’t even have any other assets at all, stocks, bonds, anything like that, savings accounts.”
The deposition was conducted on Feb. 9 as part of the ongoing legal dispute.
Biden also testified that his relatives are unable to help him satisfy the outstanding legal bills.
“My family doesn’t have any money, and it’s not their debt anyway,” he said.
The lawsuit was filed in June 2025 after Winston Taylor alleged Biden failed to pay approximately $17 million in legal fees incurred while the firm represented him in several high-profile legal matters.
According to the report, the legal work included representation in federal criminal cases, congressional investigations and defamation lawsuits filed by Biden.
Biden does not dispute that the firm is owed millions of dollars, but contends the attorneys understood when they agreed to represent him in late 2022 that he lacked the financial resources to fully pay the fees.
According to Biden, his former attorney, Abbe Lowell, repeatedly assured him that he should not worry about the legal bills.
Hunter Biden’s current legal team released depositions from both Biden and Lowell in response to discovery requests filed by Winston Taylor.
The firm is seeking emails and encrypted text messages as part of its effort to recover the unpaid fees.
Biden has opposed portions of those requests, arguing he has already produced all documents relevant to the dispute.
The deposition also highlighted the dramatic change in Biden’s finances.
Once a Yale-trained attorney who earned millions through business ventures during the years his father served as vice president, Biden testified that he now possesses few assets beyond his artwork, per the Conservative Brief.
According to the report, Biden recently accepted a position at a luxury addiction treatment center in Los Angeles.
The report also noted that former President Joe Biden received an advance for a memoir scheduled for release later this year, while former first lady Jill Biden also received a substantial advance for her memoir.
However, the report states that book advances are typically paid over multiple years and are reduced by taxes, commissions and other expenses.
