Omar Deportation: ICE

ICE Agent Spotted Outside Ilhan Omar’s Minnessota Town Hall as MAGA Requests Her Deportation

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is demanding answers from the Department of Homeland Security after a federal immigration investigative agent was reportedly spotted outside one of her Minnesota town halls, raising questions about why the agent was monitoring the area.

Omar sent a letter to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the investigative arm of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), after an agent was allegedly discovered parked outside a community center in Richfield, Minnesota, where the congresswoman was holding an event Thursday.

The Minnesota Democrat questioned whether the incident could be connected to concerns that the Trump administration is using federal immigration authorities to monitor political opponents.

According to Omar, a Richfield police officer noticed a woman sitting inside a Ford Explorer outside the community center and became suspicious of how she appeared to be watching the building.

“He proceeded to run the plates attached to the vehicle and discovered they were registered to a different vehicle,” Omar wrote.

The officer then approached the woman to determine why she was there and why the vehicle’s plates did not match government records, according to the congresswoman.

“Like any reasonable officer, he was concerned that she harbored ill intentions and may be in a stolen vehicle,” Omar said.

The woman initially identified herself as security before contacting a supervisor and revealing that she was an HSI agent conducting an undercover drug operation in the area, Omar alleged.

Omar said Richfield police had not been notified in advance about the purported federal operation.

The congresswoman also noted that a sign outside the community center clearly indicated that a congressional town hall was taking place inside.

According to Omar, the federal agent remained parked at the location until speaking with her supervisor and then left the property.

The incident prompted Omar to accuse HSI of creating unnecessary security concerns surrounding the event, per The Guardian.

“HSI’s actions yesterday evening put an entire community at risk,” Omar said.

“Instead of monitoring the area for those who might wish harm to me and my constituents, Richfield Police were required to devote time to investigating why an HSI agent was outside of a Congressional event in a vehicle with mismatched plates.”

Omar acknowledged that the agent’s presence could have been unrelated to her event but argued that the circumstances nevertheless warranted an explanation from federal officials.

“At best, your agent was unable to assess that the parking lot of a community center hosting a congressional event wasn’t the best place to conduct a drug operation,” she wrote.

“At worst, it emphasizes many Americans’ growing concern that the Trump administration uses ICE to surveil political opponents and may interfere with our democracy.”

Omar is now demanding information about why the HSI agent was positioned at the community center and whether federal officials knew beforehand that she would be holding a town hall there.

She also wants DHS to disclose whether HSI has conducted surveillance or monitoring connected to other local, state or federal officials in Minnesota.

The Guardian reported that it contacted DHS for comment.

HSI serves as ICE’s primary investigative arm and conducts federal investigations involving narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, financial crimes and other offenses.

The confrontation comes amid heightened tensions surrounding federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota.

Omar has been one of ICE’s most outspoken congressional critics and has repeatedly called for the agency to be abolished.

Security surrounding the congresswoman’s public appearances has also drawn attention this year.

In January, a man sprayed Omar with an unidentified substance from a syringe during a Minneapolis town hall where she was calling for ICE to be abolished “for good.”

The incident was condemned by Minnesota officials, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

Omar’s latest letter does not establish that the HSI agent was actually conducting surveillance against her. The agent reportedly maintained that she was involved in an undercover drug investigation.

However, Omar is pressing DHS to explain the circumstances surrounding the agent’s presence and provide information that could determine whether the encounter was coincidental or connected to her congressional event.
